Today, we’re diving into a detailed comparison of four of the best photo printers on the market for 2025: the Canon Selphy QX20, Polaroid Hi-Print, Fujifilm Instax Mini Link 3, and Kodak Mini 2 Retro. Let’s “meet” each of the options that I think are the best instant photo printers on the market today, and I have them rated by my favorite:

1. Canon Selphy Square QX20

Released in late 2024, the Canon Selphy CP QX20 is a perfect little printer that embraces dye-sublimation technology. This method ensures your photos come out with vibrant colors and smooth gradients, making every shot pop. One of its standout features is its ability to print both rectangle (2.1” x 3.4”) and square photos (2.7” x 2.7”)—. Its compact design makes it easy to bring with you anywhere, and the companion app has customization options. From fun filters to creative overlays, it offers a robust digital experience that matches its high print quality.

Each print has a white border to make a Polaroid-esque style print, and you can round the corners of the image to give it a unique style. The prints are stickers, so you can use them to write in a journal or keep them for regular printing. I have used the stickers on a lot of things and they actually stick really well.

What truly sets this printer apart is the personal touch it adds to each print through the app. The colors are spot-on, the images are sharp, and the lack of banding or printer lines is a testament to its quality. The fact that it prints in two sizes is the icing on the cake. The perfect colors alone would have made it my favorite, but adding the other great features is a clear winner.

2) Fujifilm Instax Mini Link 3

My second favorite is the Fuji Instax Mini Link 3. Fujifilm Instax Printers have long been a favorite among instant photo enthusiasts because of its consistency and charm, and the Instax Mini Link 3, released in early 2025, continues that tradition with flair.

This printer uses traditional Instax Mini film to produce prints that measure 2.4” x 1.8”. It captures that unmistakable instant photo vibe with a modern twist, thanks to its interactive mobile app you can use form your mobile device, which offers features like video printing and creative match tests using a qr code that prints on your photos. The compact and stylish design makes it a hit with users who appreciate aesthetics and functionality. Its consistent print quality has earned it high praise, especially among those who love that retro yet trendy look. Instax film makes multiple options for the borders of the prints to get fun colors and patterns to complement your photographs.

Although the Instax prints may not be the most accurate in terms of color, they have a unique and beautiful look. They capture a distinctive Instax vibe that I love, even if they don’t precisely match the original images.

3) Kodak Mini 2 Retro

If you’re a fan of nostalgia with a modern edge, the Kodak Mini 2 Retro might be your cup of tea. Debuting in 2023, it utilizes a 4Pass dye-sublimation process to produce prints of 2.1” x 3.4”. Its design is deliberately retro, evoking memories of classic Kodak days, yet it packs modern features like a handy smartphone app. Although the app offers various editing tools, some users feel it isn’t as intuitive as its competitors. There have also been occasional mentions of waste concerns during the printing process, but overall, it balances aesthetic charm and functionality.

You can print collage prints and prints with no borders (or borders- your choice). The print quality here is good- but not the most accurate when it comes to color, and there are occasionally print lines.

4) Polaroid Hi-Print

Polaroid needs no introduction to instant photos, and the Hi-Print, launched in 2023, lives up to the legacy. Using dye-sublimation technology, it also churns out prints measuring 2.1” x 3.4”, a slightly elongated format that gives a modern feel to vintage aesthetics. Its design is sleek and ultra-portable, ideal for those who are always on the move. While the app provides essential editing functions—like adding text and simple filters—it also adds a few graphics you can print on your photos.

These prints are stickers like the QX20, although when I stuck them on something, they didn’t stay the best—a bit of glue helps, but you definitely would want them to stick without glue! The print quality is okay, similar to the Kodak above.

• Print Refill Cost: Similarly, the price for print refills is generally moderate. However, always consider the cost per print when deciding, as it can add up over time. In general, an Instax new film pack is the most expensive, at about $1 a print, and the Kodak/Polaroid prints are the cheapest, at about $.20 a print.

Battery Life

Battery life is crucial when printing on the go. All four printers generally offer good battery performance for casual use, though the exact longevity can depend on usage patterns and environmental conditions. They will hold up well during outings and events; however, printing too many images at once can cause them to overheat and need a break. I found the magic number was 10-15 images of constant printing. They will all need about an hour to fully charge.

My faves In Order

1. Canon Selphy QX20 is my top pick here. The color is excellent, it has the best image quality, and it has some of the newest technology. I highly recommend this printer to anyone who will listen to me :).

2. Another great option is the Fujifilm Instax Mini Link 3. The prints have a lot of character, the color quality is excellent, and Instax is consistent in its quality.

3. The Kodak Mini 2 Retro and the Polaroid Hi Print are about equal in quality and price. They are both solid and dependable printers, slightly below the Canon and Instax.

I don’t think you can go wrong with any of these printers. They satisfy that need for instant gratification and they are all high quality products from companies that have stood the test of time. I think photo printing is such a great way to memorialize your life- I love to hang them on my fridge, use them as bookmarks and journal with them. I love to have lots of photos in my life and each of these high resolution printers are capable of making it happen.
